Homiletics
It
means the preparation and delivering of the Sermon. It comes from the
Greek word ‘Homilia’
which means “a
set of talks or communication”.
The root meaning is to assemble or bring together.
Preaching: Preaching is generally understood of delivering of message based upon a text of scripture. It is a proclamation of good news or message of salvation. According to William Evans “The man and message are the two important elements in preaching personality and truth. He also says that the communication of person and truth to men and preaching has to be verbal it cannot be written.

Biblical
Understanding of Preaching:
In
Bible the term Preaching is proclamation. It is the proclamation of
truth publicly. There are various used in Bible.

- To Proclaimed
- To Cried Out.
Bible
also talks about the divine relationship between God (John 1:2) then
uses person to communicate to the audience. Jer.11:6
Basic
Needs of Preaching:
- Sender- A Person who communicates
- Receiver
- Truth (Idea of the message)
The
process of preaching begins with the idea of a person (within
oneself-intra personal) later the intrapersonal communication moves
to interpersonal. It is not a ceaseless process. It has barriers
because pulpit language is unique and different
The
preaching involves verbal and non-verbal communications (gesture,
dressing, voice tone, etc.)
Language
used in Preaching:
- Informal Language
- Interrogative Language
- Directive Language
- Expressive Language (Giving opportunity to audience)
- Emotional Language (the emotional seats)
